WHY LIWDA IS A PAC

The Leelanau Independent Women for Democratic Action is legally organized as a
Political Action Committee, or PAC.

We chose to organize this way because we believe that in order to effectively
promote progressive political ideals and influence voters, we need to be able to
use our financial resources to support candidates or ballot proposals.  We can do
this only if we are registered as a PAC with the state and federal governments.

We are a PAC because we want to make change for the better happen in
Leelanau County.

WHAT IT MEANS TO BE A PAC

As a PAC, we conform to both state and federal laws with respect to donations to
us, and donations we make to individuals or groups.

Individuals may donate unlimited amouts to us, but please note that contributions
by individuals are not tax-deductible.

We cannot accept money from, corporations and certain other groups.

There are state and federal laws limiting how much we can contribute to individuals
or groups, but our organization as a PAC makes is possible for us to donate more
than we might as individuals.

If you have any questions about PACs and the rules that govern them, please use
the form on our "Contact Us" page.
