We believe that by acting locally we can influence policies at all governmental levels.

We believe that all Americans should have access to opportunities that help them
achieve the American dream of economic success.

We believe in defending the gifts all Americans share: our environment, our civil liberties,
our right to privacy, our children's right to quality education, and economic opportunity for all.

We believe that our nation should continually strive to live up to the ideals of liberty and
justice for all.
"Words mean nothing.  Action is the only thing.  Doing.  That's the only thing."

 Ernest Gaines, 1933

LIWDA (we say "lye-duh") is an independent political organization whose members believe that democracy
works best when its citizens are active in the work of government.  From phone calls and emails, to political
forums and parades, we work for fair, responsive, ethical government.

A current example of LIWDA's activism is the
2007 Folding Chair Challenge.  We are asking members to sit in
on several township and county meetings (most often in folding chairs!), with the overall goal of monitoring 200
meetings this year.
Click here to check out what we accomplished in 2006 and our program goals for 2007.

Although we take our work seriously, we have fun doing it.  We enjoy the creativity and challenge of tackling
important projects.  Through commitment and collaboration, our members derive significant personal rewards
for their efforts.

We hope you enjoy your visit to our website.  If you like what you see here and would like to join us,

contact our membership chair.  We are eager to network with other groups with common goals.  If you are part
of such a group and would like to collaborate on a project, or if you want to contact me for any other reason,

We are LIWDA, working for government that works for all.
