We believe that by
    acting locally we can
    influence policies at all
    governmental levels.

    We believe that all
    Americans should have
    access to opportunities
    that help them achieve the
    American dream of
    economic success.

    We believe in
    defending the gifts all
    Americans share: our
    environment, our civil
    liberties, our right to
    privacy, our children's right
    to quality education, and
    economic opportunity for
    all.

    We believe that our
    nation should continually
strive to live up to the
    ideals of liberty and justice
    for all.
Welcome to the Leelanau Independent Women for Democratic Action
(LIWDA) website.  Founded in September, 2005, our mission is to work to
improve the common good, to recruit more women to run for public office and
to support candidates and issues that are in alignment with our principles.

Some of our many successes are:

  • Instituting recycling at the Homestead Resort
  • Monitoring local government meetings
  • Sponsoring the "Run, Girl, Run!" workshop to teach women to run for
    public office
  • Working to elect candidates committed to progressive change in state
    and county
  • Educating voters on many issues, including the need for reform in
    electing Michigan's Supreme Court
  • Encouraging all citizens to participate in our representative democracy

It's not all work for LIWDA women, though.  We invite interesting guest
speakers to address our meetings, meet together in groups large and small
to share ideas and support one another, and enjoy fun times along the way.

If you like what you see here, please join us!  We would love to welcome you
at our next regular monthly meeting, held at 4 p.m on the second Tuesday of
each month at the Leelanau School in Glen Arbor.  For more information, use
the form on our "Contact Us" page.  We look forward to hearing from you.
